A good book. A gorgeous sunrise. A fun new adventure.

I just finished reading an incredible book titled Prescription for the Doctor's Wife.  Wow.  How I wish I'd read it 4 years ago (thought I am still extremely thankful for the insight and conviction it brought into my life concerning the unique situation I find myself in: married to a physician.)  It changed the way I think about Scot's position, his role to others, what he does, and how I can better support him and create a haven here at the house.  If you are a "Doctor's Wife" -- in med-school, residency, or beyond, I highly recommend this book.

Speaking of the good doctor -- he was able to see an Avs game with a friend and had a great time.  Scot is enjoying the free time he has (although, I don't think he would say it's very free feeling) and the ability to hang out more with friends, attend church/church events/studies, and just be with the family.

We had a little snow the other morning coupled with a vibrant sunrise.  The effect was gorgeous.  We're just starting the process of looking for a house to buy (gasp!) and the reality that we will most likely have to downsize our yard with a move is quite sad -- boy are we going to miss the running space when we move!

We were down at my folks last weekend and the boys had need to change into their "extra clothes" I keep at their house for just such an occasion.  My dad got this picture of Drew and it's just too cute not to share, don't you think?

And...the boys are in swim lessons and loving it (despite Evan's pained face in the picture). They have lessons twice a week and their progress is marked.  I can't wait for them to be more water-independent come summer!

My what three years will do...

Three years ago, this is what my sweet little munchins looked like:

This is them now.

a little celebration

This past weekend was a fun one for our little family.  We had to chance to celebrate Evan's half birthday.

Yes.  We do half-birthdays.  We do it because it's fun.

There's no gift.  No fan-fare.  But it is a day acknowledged and celebrated a little.  Cinnamon rolls at our favorite bakery was the request.  This momma had no problems with that (they have delicious coffee) and the papa of the house didn't mind either.

The boys' differences apparent in their method of attacking their "breakfast"

We also opened a Christmas present and started a new tradition: family game night!  Scot and I play a game about once a week, but the boys haven't really been involved yet.  I play games with them during the day, but we haven't sat down to a true family game night.  Well, all that changed, and we had such a great time.

We also love our new game.  Seriously, if you don't own Blokus, you need to.  Need to!  The side of the box says for 7yrs and up, but Drew played just fine and held his own fairly well each time we played.  And we played quite a bit.

A new thought is to actually have Saturday morning game times.  We tried it and liked it better than playing in the evening....

Happy 2014!

2013 was a huge year for us.

It held, quite possibly, the most upheaval for us, and has brought us through the most transitions we've ever gone through in such a short period of time.

And this is coming from the woman who has babies and moves within a couple weeks of delivery.

Yeah.  It was a roller-coaster of a year.  Very simply, the first half of the year was spent squeezing the good life out of our last few months in Ohio, and the second half has been spent enjoying being "home" just as much as we've been "getting over" not being Ohio.

Through it all, though, the Lord was there.  HE was our strength.  HE was our consistency when there was none to be found.  HE was our hope and our guide and our comfort.  He was, and He IS, and He will continue to be.

As we look forward to this new year, I want to remember to EMBRACE what the Lord has for me, not just endure it.  I want to fully go with the current HE has set for my life and not swim against it.  I want to enjoy the goodness HE has put on my plate.  I want to live simply.  I want to figure out how to better love and respect Scot, when he's home and when he's not.  I want to build relationships.  I want to read more.  I want to enjoy my boys on their quiet days and their boisterous days. I want to soak in The Word every. single. morning. (with coffee).

I want so much, I could continue the list, but I won't.  In short, I want what HE would have me do.

I pray you do, too.

Happy 2014 from us!
