Some Accidental Fun

Do you guys ever do something, go whoops, and then realize that it was actually for the best because your kid is having so much fun? Yup, that happened to me tonight at bath time. I added a little too much Vicks bath stuff. It's like 3 T for a whole tub. I thought I added about 3 T.

Guess not.

Either way, Evan had a blast! He didn't know what to do at first, but once he realized it wasn't edible and he could throw it, life was good.

Enjoy the pictures!

Look mom, it sticks to things. Like my hand! And the side of the tub...and...

Having so much fun with the bubbles. This kid has always loved his baths, but now, oh man...now there's no going back to a clear tub!

Ok, mom, time to clean my face. Isn't that why you say I'm in here? If you don't want to, that's ok. I don't mind. Just let me play with the bubbly stuff!

My son's seriously cool eyes. I wanted a blue-eyed baby, Scot a brown. God gave us a little of each. They are different every day. Sometimes blue, sometimes gray. Sometimes blue-gray. Sometimes green, sometimes blue-green. But always that little ring of golden brown around the pupil. Love it.

Ok, so I need to warn you about the next 2 pictures. They are beyond cute. But that's not the warning. The uncanniness of the next pictures may just cause your jaw to drop and do a double take. I did.

I took the picture of Evan tonight and the picture of Scot was taken, I think, at about the same age...crazy huh? I dug it out of my old files from our wedding slide show...go ahead, pick your jaw off the floor now.

People always tell me that Evan looks like my side of the family. And he does. Usually. I have pictures of me at his age and the resemblance there is uncanny, too. His nose and jaw and certain facial expressions. And sometimes I feel like I gave birth to my brother - the resemblance there is beyond uncanny at times. But looking at this picture I'm not so sure! haha.

Maybe it's just the face he's making. Maybe it's the way they are both sticking their tongues out the exact same way! But they look so much alike! What I need to do is try to get my hands on some of Scot's baby/kid photos... (Those of you who know that story, pray for a miracle!)

Either way, I'm glad to finally have proof that Evan looks like his daddy did - this solidifies it - Evan is a good combo of both his parents. I always wanted kids where you look at them and you can never tell who they are more like - it's quite fun to see what people say. I should know. I grew up with it!

still so in love

Scot and I celebrated 3 years of marriage yesterday and it was great. We didn't have a candle light dinner, we didn't even talk on the phone for extra long since he got off work late. But we did both celebrate in our own ways. He ate some mango sorbet strait from the carton and I made one of his favorite dishes - spinach lasagna - and shared it with Evan.

I am so thankful that we had this past weekend to share together in celebration since we weren't able to be together on the actual day. The Lord is good - even in the little things!

I was thinking about our actual wedding day last night and trying to pick out one single moment that captured the whole day or was my favorite part and I kept going back to the moments right after we said our vows, promised our lives to the other, walked down the isle without my bouquet and signed the marriage license. Someone came in and told us there was a surprise outside for us. We had no idea what to expect! But waiting for us outside was my Aunt De with a wrapped cylinder and a poem about new life together as a married couple. With the wrapping off, everyone was able to see the dozen or so butterflies trapped inside this mesh container. We let them go as a symbol for our new life together and the coolest thing was that one of the butterflies came back and landed on my bouquet! Another came and landed on my grandmother's corsage. It was by far one of the coolest moments of the entire day!!

boy am I glad it was just sprite.

Really glad. Really really glad. It could have been the Diet Dr. Pepper I asked for but they didn't have. It could have been the V8 I sometimes request. But thankfully it was just a can of sprite, not the little 9-sips-and-your-done-because-there's-so-much-ice-in-there cups, but a can, than Evan kicked strait into my lap. While on a plane. Successfully soaking my khaki capris from belly button to behind to knee cap. Oh yes. It was lovely. Again. I'm just glad it was sprite. I'm also glad that I had a skirt with me in my carry-on and that the bathroom was close to the gate I exited. But all the people who saw me between standing up and entering that bathroom stall...who knows what they thought!!

Our Tulsa trip, while ending on an awkward if still funny note, was a wonderful time. Evan didn't get really sick until the plane ride home. Hence the random kick while he cried while he was still sleeping. Yeah...I was that mom with that kid. (Thankfully not the entire flight...) So I call it good. He could have been sick on the way and while we were there. Very thankful he wasn't.

Scot got to Tulsa Thursday night and I arrived Friday afternoon. We ate out at couple times and since he had my crockpot, I threw together a really easy chicken dish. Ready? 6 chicken breasts + 1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce + 4 hrs on low = amazing. Yeah. That easy. But we weren't there for the food, so we explored Tulsa and just hung out and enjoyed actually seeing eachother instead of just hearing eachother over the cell phone lines that are sometimes, unfortunately, spotty. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Which does not always mean a good conversation. Scot is so good to put up with me sometimes. Just another month and then he's home for good!

Here are a few pictures from the trip. They do a better job at telling how fun the weekend was anyways!

Have you seen a bigger grin on this kid before? I sure haven't and I'm so happy to have caught it on camera!!

Playing cars with Scot! His newest thing is to make a 'rrr' noise and actually move the cars around the floor and up your arms and stuff. It's too cute.

The main house where we stayed. Correction. The carriage house, in the background, is where we actually stayed. This gorgeous house, original in 1912, is the main residence to the people who are being so nice and letting Scot stay in the carriage house while he's there. It was very comfortable accommodations!

A pretty flower from a garden we visited in a nearby park!

A sleepy boy who just got sleepier as we stayed on the swings.

A very sleepy boy and a very happy daddy! "This kind of stuff never happens to me" he tells me. Well, now there's proof.

Happy family!

We had a lot of fun playing/being thrown into the folded down comforter!

time with the 'dude

Oh yes, they have tons of fun together!!
Thanks, Grandude for playing with me!!
Posted by Picasa

we also...

...play in the sprinkler!

Grammy brought a sprinkler up with her and I had my first ever adventure with it. It was so much fun!
Posted by Picasa

when grammy comes to our house...

...she brings me an oatmeal creme cookie!! And you know what's even better? Mommy let me have it - before lunch!

Really, I can eat this?

Oh, ok, it's not so bad...

Oh WOW! That was so good!

Mm...gotta eat it all up!

No mommy, you can't have any. It's all mine. Grammy brought it for me. Not you.

Yes, I will guard it with my life...

Oh man - it was good to the last little crumb!! Thank you Grammy!!

Grammy and Grandude came to visit today - Grandude had work to do here in Denver - and Grammy just played with me and took me to the swings and let me help her out in the dirt! Oh yeah, and she brought me the cookie! :)

We leave on a big airplane tomorrow to go see Daddy in Tulsa for the weekend. Mommy has every thing packed in a little itty bitty suitcase because she has to check the pack n play and the car seat. I don't really know what that means, but she's trying to take as little as possible and still make the camera fit. I don't know what she's worried about - I'll be strapped to her so I'll take care of her! She says were going to look pretty funny checking in with everything, but I don't think I look funny...do I?

Well, that's all for now! I'll let you know how seeing Daddy was - I hope he remembers me! :)

farmer brown and other personas my son takes

Our weekend was quick - thankfully. I've never wanted the weekends to go by so fast as now when Scot's away and I have nothing to do on the weekends. Haha. The weeks are full of chores and schedules and play dates and dinners with friends. So yeah, for now, I look forward to Mondays.

Yesterday was an almost chilly day with slightly overcast skies. It rained and stormed in the evening and so Evan and I popped in a movie and ate some homemade popcorn! It was so cute to watch him walk over to the big red bowl I had, take a little fistful, walk to where he'd been sitting, and plop down to eat them only to get right back up again to get more. The kid takes after his mom and grammy when it comes to popcorn. He loves it!

Here are a few pictures over the last couple days - enjoy!

My little Farmer Brown - it is so cool out today that we're both in long pants. I love it and he looks so cute in little overalls!

He loves to play outside, especially if his ball is involved!

My little Preppy boy - haha - I always did go for the more preppy type, I guess it figures I would dress my son accordingly. :)

This is his new favorite spot downstairs in the play room. He loves to climb up there and play. He'll stand or sit or bounce and sometimes even bounce off - thankfully, it's not a big drop. He's still learning how to get out without falling...it's a little hard to turn around and scoot off like he does with the bed or sofa!

Here we are down at my mom's house late last week when I took the kids I tutor (RJ and Mary May) to interview a WWII vet for a project I was having them do. It was a lot of fun and we all learned so much. Well, except maybe Evan - here he's playing the part of the unwilling scholar. haha.

for the love of friends

I would be so lonely right now if it weren't for my dear friends that take me under their wing since Scot is gone. And I'm not just talking friends who are close! I have friends calling me more to check on me, friends calling because they know Evan's sleeping and I just need someone to talk to, friends who invite me over for dinner just because or, who invite themselves over because they know I miss having someone to cook for! I know I miss Scot terribly, but it does lighten the blow to have such wonderful friends looking after me! Thanks you all!

Today was a blast - I hosted the ladies Bible study pool party, and even though not everyone came, it was fun hanging with those who did. My friend Rebecca and her 2 kiddos stayed afterward for fun and dinner. All three kids took their afternoon nap at the same time, so we had almost 2 hours to ourselves - what bliss! Here are a few pictures from our day today!

The kids playing on our back patio after being int he pool!

On the swings after dinner - this is what you get when there's only one baby swing and 2 babies!

They had so much fun!

Master Eli - such a great kid!

My favorite picture of baby Rachel - such a sweet girl!

we're busy. busy. busy.

Did I say busy yet?

This past weekend was fantastic, but it was also a little bit of a whirl-wind trip. I headed down to the springs on Thursday with my mom (she had to drop my dad off at the airport) after we had a few friends over for brunch. We shopped a little Thursday afternoon, went to the Bible study that I've been going to when I'm home since before Scot and I started dating, and did a lot of catching up.

Friday morning was one of the most gorgeous weddings I have ever witnessed. Not only was the bride beyond stunning, but the setting was like something out of a fairly tale. A mountain side church, a fun filled reception - it was perfect. Friday night, mom and I had a girls night with ice cream and a movie. A wonderful end to a wonderful day.

Saturday, mom and I helped host my friend Bethany's bridal shower. We got the house all ready and had about 15 ladies in to help her celebrate her upcoming union. It was a blast. Again, mom and I watched a movie in the eveing, this time without the ice cream since we had already had cake. Haha.

Sunday was church. A long nap time for the little guy. Visiting his other grandparents (the British ones that live across from my folks, that is). Ice cream and BJ's Velvet Freeze. Nap time again while we drove back to Denver with a little shopping on the way at the outlets. Picking dad up from his delayed flight while we got pelted with hail (gotta love CO weather) and ended up stopping under an underpass while the worst passed over us. We were a bad example to the opposite traffic and they all got stuck under their underpass - it was pretty funny - but I don't blame them, the hail was coming down hard! We finally got to catch up with dad on his own whirl-wind trip to NYC to see family and say good-bye to his grandmother who has intestinal cancer.

All in all. Busy sums it up. Sums up this upcoming week, too. A friend coming in. A pool party to host. Taking the kiddos that I tutor down to the springs to interview a WWII vet. A progressive dinner. Friends. I love it. Only one more week after this next one until I see Scot! Yeah!

Sorry for not having pictures. I'm an airhead and totally forgot my camera at home. And my dad had their camera with him. So we were two camera-less women at two fantastic events and no way to prove it. Figures.

day by day

That's how we're living right now. Day by day. It's not bad, either.

I'm a person who likes to plan and who likes to have things going on and events on my calendar, and these last few days I've had to be content on my own with the boy. We go to parks or take a dip in our pool. I have my normal household duties, but when you don't have a husband to keep you company in the evenings, evenings become the perfect time to get house work done. The only thing is that with the evenings taken up with house work, there's not enough that I have to do during the day...

I know some people would probably kill to have very little to do during the day. Not me, though. I like to be going going going...so I'm trying to use this time to do things I have needed to do for a while. Make sure my Bible reading gets done in the morning - every morning. Walk every day. Organize and back up my recipes on the computer. Write more letters that require stamps. Listen to CDs that I have forgotten about.

Isn't it funny that we generally get more done when we're under a time constraint than when we have all the time in the world? Or is that just me? My motto while Scot is gone: Don't be lazy!

Here is a picture from last night's dinner of Ravioli - he loved it!!

After a bath and ready for bed!
