spooooky

It's spooky. It's Halloween. It's almost 80 degrees outside. I'm in shorts and a t-shirt. It's Halloween. My son is in just a onsie. It's HOT out. Doesn't this strike you as odd? It's spooky.

Needless to say, I think it's going to be one Halloween. With it being so nice out and on a Friday instead of a school night, I think we're all in for a very...ummm...active Halloween. Scot and I will be hiding in our basement, eating pop corn and pizza while watching Charlie Wilson's War (we hope it's good).

REMEMBER!!!! Turn your clocks BACK on Saturday night!!!

out for a walk

It's been so beautiful lately and Scot and I have taken full advantage of the warm evenings by walking in the open space near our house!!

We went out like this...

...and came back like this!!

Poor little guy was just zonked!!

Otherwise, mini update on us...Scot started his OB/GYN rotation this week and he's liking it so far. There are obviously some parts that are less enjoyable to him than others, but that's par for the course, I think. Evan slept til 8 this morning and I'm so happy!! This is the 2nd or 3rd morning it's happened and with the Daylight Savings time ending, it'll be great!! I was getting nervous about having to be up up for the day at 6 every morning...haha.

Hope you all are well!!

you have to catch up!

Since so much happened this past weekend, I've made a few posts about it. So you'll just have to scroll on down to catch up. There are also going to be tons of pictures to look at once my mother sends them to me! But we had a great weekend. The weather was lovely and we had a blast with my folks who came up early for the baptism. Scot and I were able to go on a date and Sunday was a day filled with tons of fun and fellowship! But that's the short version...I'll let you read on, now. :)

DATE NIGHT!

My folks came up Saturday and it was wonderful! They came up late afternoon and Scot had a great opportunity to learn good suturing technique from my dad. They spent about an hour on a banana and an orange, practicing different sutures. Scot loved it! And my dad said he did a great job! He also learned never to say "oops" in front of a patient - always say "there". So now, when you're in the doctors office and your physician says "there", you know what he really means! haha

We had a yummy dinner with my folks, then, since they were staying the night, Scot and I were able to go out on a date! We had such a great time. We went to Stella's - this neat little coffee shop down in the Old South Pearl Street District. We got our hot drinks to go and since it was such a beautiful night, we walked Pearl Street for a bit, got some gelato and sat down to just talk. about halfway through our conversation, I realized we still had over an hour left with np more street to walk! So we headed to a Barnes and Noble that was on the way home and just looked at books for an hour! It was so great to just get out and know Evan was in good hands with my folks! (All you moms out there should be proud of me, I didn't call to check in and I only looked at my watch once!) Scot and I decided that we need to have a date night once a month, it's just crucial to our marriage to have solid alone time! And we're just thankful that I have willing and able parents to watch him!

Baptism

On Sunday morning we had Evan baptized. It was great!! Evan did wonderful (meaning he didn't cry or scream when the pastor took him), he smiled the whole time and he looked so cute. I had him in little overalls that his great-great grandmother knit for him. It was such a special time for Scot and I to dedicate this little child, a covenant child, to God, and the promise to bring him up in the nurture and admonition of God!

Evan and his little friend, Rose. I think this picture would look good in their wedding album, don't you think?

Big Party Big Laughs

After the actual baptism and service, some really good friends of ours had us and 5 other couples (who have known me since I was 7) over to celebrate! There were 13 kids, 1 baby and 12 adults!! It was great fun! We had a huge pot luck meal - a potato bar where everyone brought toppings for the potatoes. It was great. There was chunked chicken, beans, all sorts of cheeses and salsas, bacon and tomatoes...it was wonderful. There were yummy salads and pies for dessert. But anyways, now that I've made you all drool over the food...

The neat thing about this time is that Evan was laughing up a storm for Marie (the beautiful daughter of the hostess who I've known since she was in diapers - the daughter, not the hostess) Anyways, she was just playing with Evan and then all of a sudden there erupted a giggle and then a rolling laugh! It was great. She kept on making him laugh and we kept on watching and then it dawned on me - GO GET THE CAMERA!!! So I ran out to the car and was able to catch a little on film, but it doesn't totally capture what was really going on. Why is that? Why, when you go to get the camera, does your kid not perform? Hmmm...anyways, here's a video of the laughing! The real laugh that you hear is what he did for about 20 seconds strait at a time.

The 'old gang' - and that's not a reference to age, they've all been good friends since '92! (and we're missing one couple, too, they had to leave before the picture was taken)

Any guesses on who this is? Yeah, uh huh...you guessed it...Evan's grandude. When I say we all had a great time...I mean we all had a great time full of lots of laughs!

johnny jump-up

So I went out and got Evan a johnny jump-up about 3 weeks ago because he was just jumping all over my lap and I wanted him to jump somewhere else. Anyways, last night was the first time he started to actually enjoy it and bounce a little in it. There's a new video on his youtube page for your viewing pleasure! I'm off to go walk in the glorious 65 degree sunshine!

ps - Anyone know the song in the background of the video? (w/o Googling it!!)

my brother is going to be a chopper pilot!!!

I just got off the phone with Jared...he got the aviation spot he's been working so hard to get! Praise the Lord! Not only is it such a sought after spot but it was the only one at VMI. Also, Jared ranked so high that they didn't even have to give it second thought! Now he'll be off the Enterprise, AL (Ft Rucker) for his 18 months of training on choppers after graduation! We are so proud of him!

sweet moments

Evan's little personality is starting to shine and it's so cute! The last couple days have been priceless for me. He is at the stage where he reaches for things and then his hands go to his mouth and it's fun to watch the expression on his face change. He is such an expressive little guy with his face...wonder where he could have gotten that from?!? Anyways, the night before last I was playing with him and he was facing me in my lap and he put both of his hands on either side of my face and then leaned his face in to mine with a wide wet open mouth. I know he wasn't really kissing me, but it felt like it and looked like it, so I was happy. But I chalked it up to a fluke until yesterday when he did it three more times through out the day!!

The other really cute (but kind of sad thing, too) is that Evan has started to reach for me. The sad part is that Scot was the one holding him last night when it happened. But I have to say that it warmed my heart. I also had to sit and explain to Scot that it wasn't that Evan didn't want to be held by him, it's just that I'm the one around all day, so he's naturally going to find me more comforting. Evan is just starting to notice his surroundings more and more as each day passes and it's fun to watch him discover the world.

the last few days...

...have been crazy busy for me, BUT, we've taken pictures along the way! I was able to add and take off cars from our insurance, gets cars their emission tests so that I could then go and register cars and get new plates for them! I've tutored, gone grocery shopping, cleaned and then did normal everyday stuff like dishes and making meals and taking care of Evan. Yeah, it may not sound like a lot, but in two days, it's a lot. :) But, I'm glad to have the cars off my check list, now I just need a CO driver's license. I would have done it when I was registering the cars, but no, here in CO, the license place and the registering place are two different places!! How silly is that?!?
Here are some pictures from our past week! And here is a video of Evan laughing...

Me chilling last night while daddy studied. Notice my little smirk...mommy was so exhausted and almost didn't make it to the 10:00 feeding!

This is what happens when mommy is busy making dinner...I fall asleep in my swing, and, since I HAVE to be holding onto something when I fall asleep, I hold onto my hand.

Mommy is very talented, she was too busy carrying stuff down the stairs to hold me properly and I was crying because I was hungry, so she fed me like this while she walked downstairs and daddy thought it was funny, so he made mommy 'hold pose' - whatever that means. But then we sat down and she fed me proper like.

Here I am still sleepy getting a ride on daddy's shoulders! The view is fun from up here!

Funny Videos

Real quick (and yes, Scot knows I'm blogging about this...) Here's a really funny video for your enjoyment! This is my third...let me say it again...third attempt at waking Scot up. He will notoriously say "I'm going down for a nap. Wake me up in 15 minutes, ok?" and I will in turn reply, "Ok, and what happens if you just don't wake up?" and he always responds, "oh, that wont happen, I'll wake right up!" Well, I took video footage this last time to prove to him that he is hard to wake up and he always blames me for being rough when I wake him up and I'm not. I always just sit beside and rub his arm. But anyways...on to the video!

And this is just a cute video of Evan "walking". Please disregard the fluffy pink pj pants and the laundry drying on the rack...just focus on the cute little guy, ok?

Proud Sister

I just want to give a great big "I'm so proud of you" to my brother - Jared. He doesn't even read my blog, but I want to tell you all how proud I am of him. He's a senior this year at VMI (VA Military Institute) and he's done so well. He has one of the top positions in the school (he's over ALL the athletes and athletic depts), he's the president of the Christian Athlete group, he's made strait A's, he's gotten leadership recognitions and he's slotted to get (Lord willing) an aviation spot to fly Helicopters. It's a really hard spot to get and there is only one available and so they work all 4 years to be the best in their class and do the best in Army things to get that one spot. Anyways, we're praying he gets it, he deserves it. But this past weekend was Parent's Weekend and my folks were out there and so here are some pictures!

He's the center guy. Doesn't he look so Army-ish? And yes, those are real swords.

Again, he's the middle guy. Maybe becuase he's tallest? Check out the intense uniforms!!

And the funny hats!! Love the feathers, Jared! (again, the middle guy)

Jared with one of his buddies. I wish I could explain all the important things the stuff on his uniform means, but I can't, and really, you probably don't care all that much. :)

Jared, with a girl? Yes, everyone, Jared is dating. Her name is Madeline and my folks met her this past weekend (she's from VA and came up for the weekend) and they really liked her and enjoyed hanging out with her and Jared. Note her support of the VMI Spider - way to go!

Well, that's it for now. I took 2 pretty cute/funny videos last night that I'll try and post later today or tomorrow...

new videos

There are 4 new videos from the last couple weeks on Evan's YouTube page for your enjoyment!

we found a car

We are praising the Lord today as we were able to find and buy a car last night through a few very-definitely-God circumstances. It was a late night, but we're happy with the car and the deal we got (less than what we had set as our cap money wise). Thank you to those of you who were praying about this situation. Now you can be praying for me as I make a trip next week to the DMV to register both our cars and get a CO license for me!! (I really really hate going to the DMV!!)

On another note...Evan is talking up a storm at the moment and making me laugh, so I think I'm going to go and play with him before he heads to take his nap!! I'll be posting video of him talking (and frowning) sometime soon!

boys will be boys

Last night while I was getting ready for bed, Scot was playing with Evan and keeping him entertained until I was ready to feed him. Well, the game of the night was "flying" and Scot was zooming Evan around the upstairs, through the bedrooms and the bathroom, making dives and close calls with pillows. About a minute into the 'zooming' I heard Scot say in a military tone "Oh look, there are the bad guys!! Let's get 'em!!" followed, of course, by a ttrrrrr sound of a gun. It was cute, but I was shocked at how differently we play with Evan -when I play 'flying' with him, I always point out the pretty mountains and the streams below us and comment on how high we are...) Anyways, I started to laugh. Scot asked why I was laughing and I told him that I thought it was funny that he was already playing Army with Evan. "Oh" was the response I got, and thinking I didn't like the gun factor, he told me they were just water balloons. I told him it was alright, and I'm honestly fine with them playing Army - Jared and I played Army growing up and we're just fine! (We were never allowed to point our guns at each other or anyone else, though) But it was cute because for the next few minutes instead of the ttrrr sound, Scot started making 'whoosh' and 'splat' sounds and telling Evan that they weren't bombs, they were water balloons! SO cute. They ended the flight session with Scot saying "Good job, pilot! I think we got all the bad guys!" It was priceless. Thankfully, the flight session didn't wind him up to much and my little pilot slept great!

feels like a saturday

Do you ever have those days that just feel like a different day? Yay. Today is a Saturday. I pulled our down comforter out yesterday and let me tell ya...I LOVE my down comforter!! This morning, I woke up just a hair before Evan did and I was able to luxuriously lay in bed feeling the weight of the comforter...mmm....LOVE IT! But then, of course, Evan woke up and my day started. When we went out for our morning walk, Evan in the extra Bundle Me (thank you Craig's List) that I got for the stroller, his little hat and "mittens" (little black and white socks), it was so gray out that you couldn't even see the mountains!! Knowing how CO works, it'll be beautiful this afternoon, but when we got home, I put Evan down and made a cup of tea and decided that today would be a lounge day! :) So after I take my shower, I fully intend to get into my most comfortable sweats and play with Evan all day! Gotta love it, huh? I'm sure I'll do some work...dishes still have to be done and floors still have to be swept and I do have to continue looking online for a car. Have I told that story yet?

Scot's old car...Ethel...broke down last weekend (secretly, I'm happy about this) - as in, she needs a new $4000 engine and some other miscellaneous things and then you have to factor in the labor. Ick. I'm not happy about that. So...we're going to try and sell her -- we figure she's a mechanics dream. And then we're going to try and get just a little car for Scot to get to work in, something reliable with good gas mileage. Craig's List here I come! We found a couple good ones, but they were snatched before we made an offer. Oh well, we'll get by with one car just fine for a little while. We'll see what happens, something is bound to turn up. Pray for wisdom and discretion if you think about it, please. :)

Otherwise, we're good! Evan is laughing all by himself now and it's adorable. I need to take video of it when we can figure out when it happens. Yesterday, I was playing with him in the morning and he reached up and grabbed my hair. (I should have known this was coming. He pulled at my glasses the other night and 'accidentally', or so I thought, grabbed my earring...let the games begin!) Anyways, after a few 'oww oww owws' on my end and prying his fingers off my hair -- he laughed! And then I laughed. It was pretty cute. (Unless, of course, he was actually laughing at my pain, and then that's not so cute...sigh...we'll never know will we?)

Well, I'd best hop to before Evan wakes up!! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

our past week

Hello!!! I am just back from an amazing week down in the springs with my folks and grama! It was so much fun to just relax (it was really a mini vacation for me - I had 6 extra hands to help with Evan if I needed it!) and shop a little, hike and eat good food. My grama got to spend a lot of time with Evan, which was really nice, and we all got to see him change in the few days I was there. The first day I was there, he was just starting to 'talk', and by today, he's full stream ahead. I think he'll be in the nursery from now on at church becuase I really don't want to have to try and keep his little voice in check the whole time and then miss the message!!

He's also really starting to reach for things and grab them. He can now roll over from his tummy to his back (although unintentionally) and it's so cute to see his face of surprise when all of a sudden he's looking up instead of down. He had lots of fun with his grammy and grandude, too...they love being around him and playing with him and they enjoyed fighting over who got to feed him his bottle at night. Very cute. Uncle J is going to be very happy to see and play with him in a few weeks over Thanksgiving break...we'll see what the little one is up to then!!

Thanks to Kj, I was able to figure out the whole slideshow thing!! YAY!! Thanks, Kj!! So here are pictures from this past week. Enjoy!!

3 months!!

Here's my little guy at 3 months - I can't believe how fast time is going!! His newest thing is sqealing with delight and 'talking' non-stop. He's going to be one verbal little guy at this rate...wonder where he gets that from!!

Scot's folks bought us a jogging stroller this past week and we used it for the first time last night. Evan had a blast and even stayed awake the whole ride, I think he liked the changing view. :)

He has so much fun as long as he has stuff to look at!

We're down to the springs for almost a week. Scot may be down to visit, too, but Evan and I will be chillin' with my mom and grama. We're really looking forward to it, but I'm not sure if I'll be on to update this. But keep checking back!

Oh, does anyone know how to have a slideshow on the blog instead of showing a million pictures by themselves? I know some of youn have done it...help!!
