....ok, maybe not the sole reason, but it definitely had something to do with it! Scot is notorious for doing little things like this and I love it. I'm always looking for the next hidden note, gift, or message scratched into the brown sugar! Thanks Babe - you truly are amazing!
I will sing joyful praises and be filled with excitement like a guest at a banquet. Psalm 63:5

attempt at being brief
The trip is done and I'm up to my ears in house work and getting settled back into a routine. Being away is always nice, but after about 3 or 4 nights, I just always crave my own bed and my own things. And now that I'm back, I love it. I love opening my own blinds in the morning and looking out my own window on a new day and even though I have meal planning and grocery shopping and cleaning and laundry to do, it's ok, because it's my own. Isn't it amazing how being away makes you appreciate what you went without when you were away?
Evan was so excited to be home! He has also transitioned beautifully back to CO time after being on VA time for almost a solid week. He slept all the way through the night and didn't wake up as early as I thought he would have going from eastern time to mountain - a huge praise in my book! A sleepy momma is not a happy momma in this house! We had a lot of firsts while we were gone, too! He's started to wave bye bye - I realize he's a little late on the draw for that, but it dawned on me that he doesn't have a reason to consistently say goodbye to us, but while in VA, we were saying hello and good bye to a lot of people. He's quite good at it now. We also had our first show of real defiance and even though he was cute, it broke my heart. I had taken something from him and he gave me this "I"m mad at you, how DARE you?!?" look and than took a swing at me. He only did it twice and it hasn't happened since, but I was shocked and hurt and trying not to laugh at his oh-so-determined face while all of this was going on. All in all, even though he was teething/sick/fussy for 2 days, it was s wonderful trip.
For Memorial Day, Scot had off so we all went down to celebrate with my folks. Scot studied some, but it was mostly all about the good food and visiting with the friends my folks had over and Evan's 2nd grandparent's across from them!!

been a little crazy
Well, I'm still in VA and so far, the trip is going really well. This past weekend was Jared's graduation from VMI and it was so special to watch. He was commissioned into the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant on Friday and then graduated with a BA in Biology with a minor in Psych - all with distinction - on Saturday. Both of my grandparents on my dad's side, as well as my dad's brother and his wife, were there along with my mom's mother and sister and her family. Good family friends from our church in VA also came up to witness the 'big day'. :) All in all, it's been crazy and busy and crazy busy, but fun, too. I'm staying at a friend's house this week and while we got to hang out Sunday through today, she's leaving with her folks tomorrow to go to the beach, but they've been kind enough to let me stay at their place while they're gone to give Evan some consistency. So I'll be spending time with other friends during the day and having some place familiar to come 'home' to for the next few days. Evan has done exceptionally well during the trip thus far. He woke up warm an fussy today, so I think we're teething again, but otherwise, he was a gem on the plane rides and did so well even though he didn't have all his naps during the graduation weekend. He's slept through the night every night so far (knock on wood) and has now adjusted to VA time, so he's going to bed at 8 and getting up at 7 - it's amazing. The thing that's totally NOT amazing is the humidity. Oh my goodness...I had forgotten what it was like, and now I just want to forget all over again! :) Well, that's it for now. I'll do another post before I leave (I think) and then I'll upload a slideshow for you all to see!!

he tried...he really did
I firstly need to say that my husband is amazing. I secondly need to say that I mentioned blogging about this incident and then said no and then Scot told me I should because he agrees with me. It's funny. But really, when I say Scot is amazing, I really mean it. He brings me flowers every so often just because, he leaves me notes, he tells me I look beautiful, he helps with Evan without complaint even when he has a ton of studying to do, and he tells me all the time that if he could get paid to just hang with me, he would do it. That's the just the tip of the ice berg, too, I really have been blessed by a loving and caring husband. But in all of this, Scot sometimes struggles with getting me tangible gifts. It's kind of ironic since he's such a romantic guy, but he's just at a loss sometimes as to what to get. I like the kind of gifts you can't wrap, or things that fit well in your stocking at Christmas. Nail polish, note cards, lip gloss, earrings...it's the little thing that get me. But a girl can only have so much of those things and so he keeps his ears open for random things I mention. And here is where the story begins.
Part one: Yesterday I had a return to make at Goodwill and while there I spotted a pair of cute plaid capris that were from the LOFT and they were in my size, but I was with Evan and I was in a hurry to get to errand number 5 and didn't try them on. (You know how that goes...)Over dinner, though, I told Scot about these cute pink and orange and brown capris I saw, and flabbergasted that I didn't get them on the spot he told me to go back today and pick them up. He said, and I quote, "...even if you don't need them, how often are you going to find good quality capris for only $4?" And well, I just couldn't argue with that! So I decided to go today after Bible study.
Part two: Scot got off work today at lunch and decided that he was going to pick up the capris and give them to me for Mother's day. He even tells me that he's out picking something up for me but won't tell me where and he tells me, quote, that I'm going to love his gift. So I'm excited, right? Anyways, I tell him I'm off to Goodwill to get the capris and he says that's fine, he'll see me at home. So I go to Goodwill, pick up the capris, try them on and they're a perfect fit. By now you, as a reader, know what Scot didn't - he had picked up the wrong pair of capris.
Part three: So I get home and he asks me if I got the capris (remember, in his head HE has the capris and he's expecting me to come empty handed with the plan to surprise me with them for Mothers day - sweet, I know) so you can only imagine his shock when I told him that I had indeed found them. He looked at me funny and asked what size they were (he never asks that, so I knew something was up) and then, like the snoopy-when-it-comes-to-gifts kind of wife I am, I said "You got me pants for Mothers day, didn't you?" I was genuinely excited - the last pair of pants he got me were these super cute brown cords and I love them. Anyways, he was bummed that I guessed but more bummed than I thought he should be. So then he told me that he had already been to Goodwill to pick the capris up. But he could only remember that I had said plaid and Ann Taylor and so he picked up the wrong ones. Poor guy. So while the capris he picked out for me are outrageously hideous (I really wonder if he actually thought I would wear them!), he really did try and that's what counts!!! I have to admit though, I'm bummed that his plan didn't work, because it was a really sweet plan. Thankfully though, the Goodwill accepts returns!!

These lovely pants (and they actually are pants, they're just petite, hence the reason they were in the capri section of the store) are in reality not bad if you're going to a Christmas party since they're almost-black hunter green with red and gold stripes. You would never see me wearing them, but the right person could pull them off...maybe.

And these summery and fun capris are a little more up my alley. They are my first pair of anything plaid since, oh, about middle school when the whole camp shirt with a t-shirt underneath thing was in style, but i figured I would give it a try since I have shirts that match, and heck, for $4, you can't go wrong, right?
All in all, a funny story, I hope. I know stories are always more enjoyable when you're 'there', but since none of you were in my kitchen when this whole thing played out, I hope you enjoyed the written version.

seriously? 10 months?!
Some things I put in his baby book last night:
- I have 2 teeth!
- I'm standing on my own now and taking steps here and there, but nothing consistent and nothing without falling.
- Cruising is the best!
- Mommy's very happy that I say Mama now. I also have added ra-ra and la-la into my vocab this past month!
- I am an Indian giver! I like to put my pacifier in mommy and daddy's mouth and then take it out. I'm learning to share...kind of.
- I laugh at things I think are funny now!
- I play peek-a-boo as long as I have a blanket or something to put over my face
- I am always talking or singing
- I love to play in mommy's container drawer
- I clap when I get excited
What a messy eater I am when mommy lets me!
