quite the day

We have had quite the day today - and it's not even 2 yet!! First of all, some good news...Evan slept all the way through the night! Now he's done this off and on over the last 2 or 3 weeks, but last night was great! Previously, when he would sleep all the way through, he would get up at 5:30 or 6 and be up for the day. Not so fun for me. And most nights, he would wake at 4 and then go back to sleep til 7. Good for me. Well, last night we put him down at 10 like usual and he woke up at about 3:30. But instead of feeding him, I put the pacifier back in his mouth and he was golden til 7!! I did this because I have heard and read that once a baby hits 10 lbs, they should be able to make it through the night no problem, and if they wake crying, it's probably because they want to suckle or need to be changed, not because they're hungry. Also, I had noticed that the last couple nights when I fed him, it wasn't like he was eating because he was hungry...more like he was eating because it was there and definitely for a shorter time. So I thought to myself...I don't want to start a bad habit and be feeding him when he doesn't need it...so I let the pacifier meet the suckling need instead of me!

But the good night has been spoiled slightly...Evan got his 8 week shots today, and although the Tylenol takes the edge off, the poor little guy has been out of sorts this afternoon and has been sleeping quite a bit. He has cute Bugs Bunny band-aids, though...

And then, as I was getting home, Scot called me to say he got a flat on the way to get his emissions test done so he can register the car...and the emissions people will obviously not pass the car with a spare on it...so my poor husband is spending more time doing this than he wanted to. He's such a good sport, though, and is keeping a good attitude.

So today has been quite the day. And yesterday was quite the day as well, but all in good ways! Scot and I celbrated our anniversary by going on a picnic to our favorite park (we love picnics) and then riding the LightRail downtown to grab dessert at a place I've been going to for dessert since I was about 7. It was great. And with the DNC going on, it was crazy downtown! We walked 16th St Mall afterwards and had a blast people watching! All in all, it was a wonderful day...

Here are a few pictures from yesterday!

just some pictures...

Here are just a few pictures from the last couple weeks. To see all the new pictures, just go to the Picasa link!!

Evan's first dip in the pool 2 weeks ago. He didn't like it at first, but then he was fine. He likes his baths, so I think he'll like the water in general. :)

Courtesy of Katie. Thank you!! Doesn't it look great? We love it...she did such a great job!

Evan has amazing head/neck control. Here he is just chilling with a new blanket!

He's smiling now, big open mouthed grins (especially when he's getting changed) and little smirks. But we have as yet been able to capture them any better than this.

Here we are on a walk in Wash Park! We're loving being here and having so much to do and see right at our fingertips!!

We're doing well. Evan is great. He's almost sleeping through the night! He's had a coupe 10-6 nights, but mostly we're doing 10-4:30 and then a 7:30 feeding (which I like better, actually, lets me sleep in more! haha) but we're almost there...just another week or 2 and I think we'll be all-nighting it every night!! I'll post more later, but i did want you all to know that I'm working on it!!

promise

I will update soon, I promise. I will have pictures of the house and pictures of the baby and updates on what we've been up to besides being sick. We're in the last week before Scot starts up with rotations and we have busy weekends on either side, so I don't foresee me being on the computer all that much. BUT, once Scot is gone all day every day I should be a little more 'blog-happy'! So, in short, stay tuned, I will be back!

the bug...

It starts off as a slight itch in the back of your throat, and you think to yourself: Hmm...must be because the window was open in the night. But then around lunch time you realize it's a little more than just a dry spot on your throat. You can tell it's getting worse. And get worse it does. After about 24 hours, it leaves you with chills and a fever and then you have a wonderfully stuffed nose. Yup. That's pretty much what last week looked like. And after I cleaned and changed sheets and disinfected stuff and was better for about 24 hours, Scot woke up with it. But he's better today, so I have to re-clean, re-sheet the bed and re-disinfect today. Fun, huh? But thankfully Evan was spared and he's just as happy as can be!! Oh yeah...and he's smiling AT US! It's the coolest thing ever, I swear! haha

I have a busy week ahead of me. Parent's visiting tonight, friends staying over Tue and Wed, Bible study, visiting a friend with a new baby, making meals for people at church....keeping up with life in general....yeah....this is life and I love it! :)

The Dark Knight

Oh my goodness...AMAZING!!! Seriously such a great movie. Scot and I caught a matinee showing yesterday and we're 2 of 8 people in the entire theater!! I spent the whole time covering Evan's ears, but we were all good. He slept/ate through the whole thing!! Only made one little peep. We were so impressed. haha. Scot loved the reclining seats and the fold up arm rests - very posh...very posh. But the movie was great. I won't spoil it for any of you, but just go out and see it. And no, you don't have to see the first one in order to get it. As long as you kinda remember what happens in the first one, you're good.

i think we're starting another growth spurt

Yes...I think we may indeed be starting another one...oh well...the kid has to grow somehow, I guess I just wish it involved something other than making me feel like a 24/7 all-you-can-eat buffet! No, it's not really that bad, but sometimes, that's the way I feel! :) The last 2 days Evan slept almost non-stop, just like he did before his last growth spurt. And then last night he was up after 3 hours to eat instead of the normal 5 or 6, and today, he's been hungry on the 2-2.5 mark instead of the typical 3-3.5 time frame...so, with all that being said, I think we're headed into another growth spurt! Joy.

We went to the doctor's yesterday for the 6 week check-up and everything looked great. Evan passed all the tests with flying colors. The pediatrician was pleasantly surprised by his head/neck control and was also a little unpleasantly surprised by the fact that he sleeps on his tummy. BUT, she did say that sleeping on his back was only her suggestion and that I could do as I felt necessary. I was glad she didn't push the issue or give me a guilt trip. Overall we really liked her and we'll go back. Oh, Evan's stats now are: 21.75 inches and 9 lbs 6oz. He is a growing boy. We'll see what the new stats are in a couple weeks when we go again for his 2 month - haha - after this growth spurt he's sure to be over 10 lbs (and hopefully sleeping alllll the way through the night, too!!)

Scot and I are using this week as a 'vacation' week. We're taking a break from him reading and studying and from us doing anything that has to do with the house. We're just chilling and vegging. We're going to see the new Batman movie this afternoon and we're really excited about that! We've made a trip up to Ft. Collins to visit friends and done a little shopping here in town and found some really great deals. We're probably going to stick closer to home for the next few days and just relax (especially if we really are headed into a growth spurt....). Maybe go up to Georgetown and hike and picnic, but that's about it!

Alright, well, I must be off...hope everyone is doing well!!

One month old

Playing with his Papa!! We're having such a good time right now with my folks and my Aunt. It's so nice to live near family, especially with Evan around! Right now, he is sleeping in his pack 'n' play my folks got for their place and guess what? I only had to pick him up once before he went to sleep!!! YAY!!!

Here he is last night playing by him self while I made dinner! What a good little sport he was - we even got to eat all of our dinner before I fed him. The whole trick worked!!

Just like I did with my belly, Evan is going to have 'comparison' pictures to track his growth! Note the lovely red knees courtesy of his stubbornness to sleep on his back...also please note that they aren't really that red, the camera just makes them look that way.

He loves to hold onto things...here he is grasping his little froggy...don't worry, it doesn't go with him into bed!

That's about it for now. I have a cake in the oven for a get together tomorrow and I need to feed the boy soon!! But I wanted to quick post some pictures!!

one month ago...

...I was on my way to the doctor's office with no clue that I was having a baby the next day!! CRAZY!! Isn't it amazing how time flies so fast? We've been in the townhouse for 2 weeks and it's really starting to feel more like home. Things are starting to be hung on the walls, most things are in their place and I'm very comfortable in the kitchen - it feels like MY kitchen instead of someone elses that I'm just using. haha

Evan is doing really well. With all the moving we inadvertently started the bad habit of letting him fall asleep where ever - in our arms, in the swing, almost anywhere but his crib(except at night) and it was starting to be a challenge to get stuff done when all he wanted to do was be held. So this morning I started to break that habit and so far, so good! I am a huge proponent of "The Baby Whisperer" and she talks about "accidental parenting" (when you accidentally start bad habits) and how to get back on track. So I read what she had to say about babies who have to be held all the time and won't go to sleep on their own. She said that we had pretty much not let Evan learn how to fall asleep on his own. So her solution is to pick him up when he cries, comfort him and let him know I'm there and then put him back down. She said you may have to do this 100 times the first day, but by the 3rd day, he'd be cured! Well, tell ya what, I did it for his morning nap. I did a simple bedtime routine (something else she suggests) and lay him down. I had to pick him up 14 times before he finally fell asleep, but then for his second nap, I only had to pick him up 3 times. And for his third nap, only once! I tell ya what, the baby I had yesterday wouldn't have done that, but the baby today did!! (let's hppe the baby tomorrow acts like today...haha) So, that's been the main task today. And I'm so glad the trick worked - I've gotten so much accomplished! (like updating the blog)

We're headed down to the springs this weekend to hang out with my Aunt who flew in and also go to an engagement party of some dear friends. It should be a blast. We're going to go to Garden of the Gods and I'm hoping to get some good family pictures! Be on the look out for those!! Well, I must run some errands while Evan's still asleep! Thank goodness for a husband and baby monitors!!
